“I am really delighted with my time. I had a lot of injuries this year so I am really pleased.

“The atmosphere around the course was just unbelievable.

“I really think that the tragedy of the Boston marathon brought more spectators out on to the streets.

“In many cases they were five and six deep.”

Anne admitted that she was given a special wrist band telling her she had finished in the top ten percent of the 36,000 runners at the finish line, but that she hadn’t logged on to check her actual position in the race.

“I am literally just in the door, so I haven’t got time to check yet,” joked Anne.

The City of Derry runner said she felt “remarkable well” after the gruelling 26 mile marathon, but wasn’t putting her hat in the ring for next year.

“I would have a better starting position next year following my good finish, but at this stage I think it’s a bit too early to decide,” she joked.
