Title race hots up in North West League

THE race for the North West Division One title is heating up as the season nears completion.

League leaders Loughanreagh picked up another 4.5 points last week following their victory away to Second Kilrea. Reigning champions Ballinrees though did managed to cut Loughanreagh's lead to 12.5 points after their 27-shot win at home to Moneydig.

The hosts picked up six points after winning on three of the four rinks.

Trevor Workman picked up the visitors single point of the night when he beat Kenny McNeill by two shots, however Ballinrees went on to dominate after that.

William Calvin beat Brian McFetridge by nine to put his side in front. After the break Victor Millen beat Willie Knight by three and Jonathon Calvin wrapped things up with a 17-shot win over Stanley McCart.

Dunluce are in third spot following their six shot away win at Boveedy. Harry Elliott got the Bush lads off to a solid start as he beat Stephen White by seven shots. Ronnie Catherwood pulled a point back for Boveedy as he edged out Tommy Smith by a single shot.

In the second half Nigel Gamble picked up another point for the hosts with a five shot victory over Alastair Kilpatrick. But Alastair McIntyre sealed the win for Dunluce with a five shot win over Alan Catherwood.

Bottom club Montra picked up a vital win over Marian picking up six valuable points in the process. James Martin put the visitors in front with a three shot win over Russell Milllar before Jimmy O'Neill reduced the deficit with a one shot victory over John Rainey.

After the break Paul Donnelly beat Joe Martin by three shots before Peter Whittaker secured the five shot victory for his side with a four shot win over Brian McAlary.

A North West Council meeting will be held in Drumreagh on Tuesday 9 March at 7.30pm. The names of club representatives for the various championships to be submitted to the League Secretary before that date.
