U13s beat Dromara but meet their match in Maze

Dromara 1

Banbridge Town U13s 3

THE start of this match was unfortunately delayed for 45 minutes due to a misunderstanding regarding the referee so both teams found it very difficult to get going after such a long wait.

However it was Banbridge that drew first blood with David Gray making a great run down the left hand side and driving the ball hard and low past the diving keeper.

Banbridge should have been able to finish the match off in the first half but weren’t able to take their chances and against the run of play Dromara took advantage of some slack marking to equalise.

Banbridge went ahead again when Declan Loy's shot was blocked by the keeper and Michael Jordan pounced on the rebound to drive it into the net.

In the second half Banbridge increased their lead when David Gray made another great run and crossed the ball to Tom Brown who coolly slotted the ball past the keeper.

Lower Maze 2

This was an evenly matched affair with Banbridge playing the better football but Lower Maze fighting well in midfield using their greater physical strength.

Banbridge were awarded a direct free kick just outside the box and David Gray placed his kick beautifully into the roof of the net. Lower Maze equalised five minutes later when a long ball skidded off the wet surface and caught the Banbridge defence square and the Lower Maze forward made no mistake.

In the second half Banbridge were awarded another direct free kick and this time Stephen McCavitt hit his shot hard and low to the keeper's left just inside the post.

Lower Maze kept fighting and equalised with ten minutes to go and could have won the match but a couple of courageous saves from Banbridge keeper William Maxwell.
