Victory for Darren and Mickey at Gracehill

Saturday 15th September

Darren Lamont and Raymond ‘Mickey’ McAleese proved to be a winning combination on Saturday by winning the Four Ball Better Ball competition with 43pts. These two have been racing round the fairways of Gracehill at the crack of dawn for years and in this instance the old saying of the ‘early bird catches the worm’ certainly proved to be spot on. In 2nd place on countback with 42pts were David Radcliffe and Philip Bell. David Jardine and Robert Brown had to settle for 3rd place.

Verses Par Competition

Sunday 16th September

With the Ryder Cup on the horizon it was time for a bit of matchplay on Sunday with a Verses Par Competition. In this format you are basically playing match play against the course. Unfortunately the course never hits a bad shot or leaves a putt just short! Geoffrey McLean (8) proved to have the minus touch and beat the course 3 up. With 11 pars and a couple of birdies including a crucial birdie at the 18th Geoffrey put in a performance that would of caught the eye of Jose Maria Olazabal! In 2nd place also beating the course 3 up was Bert Chambers. Bert produced a high quality round but on this occasion he was just beaten by the stronger finish of Geoffrey. 3rd place went to Charlie Kearns with another excellent performance beating the course 2 up. Robert McKinney captured the gross prize.
