Vital win for Seapatrick

IN the opening few minutes of this relegation six-pointer in the Mid Ulster Intermediate A league.

Both clubs were trying to get themselves an early goal by threating each other’s box. The Village midfield was trying their hardest to create chances for their forwards but was cancelled out by the restated Fivemiletown defensive.

Seapatrick got a free kick followed by a corner to try and get a goal for the team on the 12th minute but both came to nothing.

The Village got a goal from Mark Watt on the 15th minute. The ball came across the box and Mark headed the ball into the net. The visitors then got a goal to equalise 21 minutes in.

Seapatrick then pushed on and were in a great position when Keith McVitty attacked the visitor’s box on the 25th minute. Mark Watt crossed the ball torturing the Fivemiletown goalie that led into a Seapatrick corner, which provided the goal that was scored by Darren McGrath.

Seapatrick got another corner on the 33rd minute that was cleared off the visitor’s goal line. Stephen Blackwood then hit a great strike from 20 yards across the Fivemiletown goalie to get the third for the Village on the 38th minute. Seapatrick kept on pressing the Fivemiletown goal at the end of the first half but the score was 3-1 going in at half time.

In the second half, Darren McGrath missed a one on one chance with the visitor’s goalie on the 50th minute. The visitors then got a free kick on the 53rd minute but were cancelled out by the Village defence.

A well worked Village team movement from Stephen Blackwood to Darren McGrath led to a corner, where Darren McGrath scoring his second goal and Seapatrick’s fourth of the afternoon. After the goal, both teams were attacking each others’ box. Stephen Blackwood passed to Darren McGrath who just missed the goal on the 65th minute.

Twice the Village had a corner that was dealt with from the visitors on the 67th minute with Fivemiletown clearing the ball off the line soon after. Darren McGrath hit the visitors crossbar on the 73rd minute.

Darren McGrath had another chance that hit the side netting on the 81st minute. Near the end of the second half, Fivemiltown started pressing near the Village’s net but were denied by the Seapatrick defence.

The match ended 4-1 to Seapatrick with this much satisfied win over their visitors and relegation rivals, Fivemiletown. Seapatrick’s last fixture of the season is against Tandragee on Tuesday night down at Havelock Park with a 7pm kick off.

The team would like to push on for a final big result to guarantee their safety in the league against what is sure to be a tough side still chasing the title.
