Win would ease relegation fears for the Clans

EVENTS last weekend in the All County Football League have thrown a whole new light onto relegation matters in the first division.

Clan na Gael will travel to Derrytrasna on Sunday in the knowledge that the Sarsfields are already safe yet keen to extend their winning run to five straight wins with a Championship final against Cullaville pending.

The Hoops were due to face Carrickcruppin last Saturday but the South Armagh side, who were at home, did not field and have forfeited the points.

With Killeavey looking almost certain to go down and fellow strugglers Mullaghbawn facing difficult games against Maghery and Dromintee, a win for Clan na Gael on Sunday would go a long way towards securing their divisional status for another year.

Sarsfields further sharpened their Championship sword with a tough challenge game against Down Senior Champions Kilcoo.

As for Clan na Gael, following their trip to ‘Trasna, they will play Dromintee and Cullaville who are both on a high at the moment and still involved in Championship campaigns. Ironically the Sarsfields are also arranged to meet Carrickcruppin in a home fixture and it will be interesting to see if the South Armagh side will make the trip.

As for Sunday’s match both Sarsfields and Clan na Gael will be keen to win for different reasons. The Blues need both points and the ‘Trasna outfit will have several players fighting for Championship positions.
