Northern Ireland’s biggest shanty collective – the Causeway Shantymen – are coming to a stage near you!

The Causeway Shantymen are renowned for bringing their shanties, sea-songs, and sense of fun to the stage and have done so successfully across the length and breadth of Ireland.

Residing on the Causeway Coast, these sea dogs usually have crowds stompin’, howlin’ and ringing bells by the second shanty.

The sea dogs sailed into the summer of 2024 with a list of events on their schedule and have left successful festival performances at Stendhal, Rosses Point Wild Atlantic Shanty and Foyle Maritime in their wake.

Earlier that day there will be a Sea Shanty Writing workshop in the Town Hall where you can join songwriter and musician Paul Connolly to write your own shanty alongside the Causeway Shantymen!

Paul Connolly (The Woodburning Savages & Nerve Centre) will lead participants in exploring tales of wonder and derring-do from the North Coast's salty, rum-soaked and oft-times romantic nautical past.

This songwriting workshop invites anyone with the head for a lyric, a ditty or even a full blown sea shanty to dive into tales such as those of Tavish Dhu, the ill-fated Girona, and the Portrush Giantess to write alongside The Causeway Shantymen in bringing your songs to life and stoking it into a full-blown shanty.

The event is free but tickets can be reserved via EventBrite.
