Curiosity comes to town as NI Science Festival returns to Lisburn

With a star-powered programme of world-class scientists, celebrity speakers and family-focused events, the NI Science Festival (NISF) returns from February 11-22, bringing big ideas and hands-on discovery to Lisburn.

Celebrating the wonders of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics (STEAM), the festival presents a vibrant programme designed to inspire curiosity, spark conversation and show how science shapes our everyday lives.

At Hillsborough Castle and Gardens on February 14, Dick Strawbridge in Conversation promises a lively discussion and audience Q&A with the engineer and sustainability advocate, delving into his background in engineering, heritage restoration, and sustainable living.

A Behind the Scenes Conservation Tour of Hillsborough Castle will also show how its highly-skilled specialists conserve and preserve furniture, paintings, silverware and clocks for display in the State Rooms.

Commenting on this year’s programme, festival director Sarah Jones said: “Science isn’t just for labs. It’s in our history and culture.

"It’s how we understand the world around us and that’s what we’re about at NI Science Festival.

"With events spanning archaeology to music and quantum physics we’re here to open up a whole world of possibility for audiences.”

Since launching the first Festival in February 2015, the festival has grown into one of the largest celebrations of science in the UK and Ireland, connecting leading scientists, thinkers, and creators with audiences of all backgrounds.
