Davy’s walking from Coleraine to Cork!

Coleraine’s Caring Caretaker is back - and what a fundraising challenge he has set himself this time!

Well-known charity fundraiser Davy Boyle was bitterly disappointed that the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting restrictions devastated his planned events for 2020.

Davy had mapped out a year of events including a Jail and Bail fundraiser and his annual Big Breakfast at the Lodge Hotel, not to mention various bucket collections around the Triangle area - but everything was put on hold when lockdown was introduced.

But it’s hard to keep a good man down and now Davy has come up with a fantastic new idea to raise funds for NINE different charities.

While he was out walking during lockdown, Davy came up with the idea of doing a charity sponsored walk from Coleraine to...CORK!

“I just choose the farthest place away and I liked the fact that both places began with C so I went for Cork,” explained Davy.

“I will be walking that distance but never leaving the Triangle area in keeping with guidelines to keep everyone Covid safe.

“It’s a total of 630 miles there and back. The plan is to walk 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day starting on June 1. That should take ten to 12 weeks in total to complete.”

Davy continued: “I am doing the walk to raise money for nine charities: Macmillan Cancer Care; NI Hospice; KidneyResearch; Friends of the Cancer Centre; Prostate Cancer; Community Rescue Service; Alzheimer’s Society; Charlene’s Project; Sands NI.

“If anyone wants to support me by walking they can get a sponsorship sheet by ringing me on 07881 916153 and walking in their own area.

“Or people can join me but socially distance as we walk or people can donate as they see me out and about walking.

“I would encourage people to join in as they will be helping charity, helping their own fitness and helping their own mental health by getting out in the fresh air.”

Davy’s Coleraine to Cork walk starts on June 1 at 11am at Coleraine Town Hall.
