Cancer Focus helps LIDL staff and customers to keep well

Staff and customers of the Lidl store in Lisburn are being encouraged to hop onboard the Cancer Focus Keeping Well van to have their health checked out for free on 9th January from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

The Cancer Focus Northern Ireland Keeping Well van is a mobile drop-in unit which delivers health checks and cancer awareness sessions directly to workplaces, and sports and community groups across Northern Ireland.

Lucia Christy, Project Manager at Lidl NI, said: “To kick start a healthy and happy new year for our staff and customers we have organised for the Keeping Well mobile units to visit 16 of our stores across Northern Ireland throughout January.

“The Keeping Well van presents an excellent opportunity for our employees and customers to access medical advice and receive free health checks. With 22 health check appointments available at each visit, this means more than 350 people can benefit from this service visiting our stores. We’re delighted to be able to bring this valuable service directly to our stores and would encourage other workplaces to do the same.”

The health checks available onboard include blood pressure, pulse, blood sugar, carbon monoxide monitoring for smokers and body composition analysis. The health awareness sessions are delivered on a one-to-one basis and offer advice on healthier lifestyle choices and information on the early signs and symptoms of various cancers.

Gerry McElwee, Head of Cancer Prevention at Cancer Focus, added: “The resources available on our Keeping Well vans will help to empower Lidl staff and customers to take control of their own health and lower their risk of cancer. The sessions we offer are interactive, positive and designed so that participants see how they can actively choose a healthier lifestyle, step by step.

“It’s encouraging that businesses, like our charity partner Lidl, will bring this service to their workplace to benefit their staff and customers. It allows us to reach out to even more people with important healthy lifestyle and cancer awareness messages.”
