Lisburn teenager banned from driving after court heard he had fallen for an insurance scam
A Lisburn teenager has been banned from the roads for three months after he drove without valid insurance.
Lisburn Magistrates Court heard that on July 22, 2026 at 00.35, police spoke with the 18-year-old who had driven Ford Fiesta to the car park at Malone House on the Malone Road.
He told officers that he had temporary insurance for the vehicle, however checks showed this was not the case.
The defendant, Luke Cuhsnahan (18), whose address was given as Stoneyford Road, faced two other charges of having no insurance after being stopped by police at Warren Gardens in Lisburn on September 4, 2026, and at the junction of River Road and Church Hill in Dunmurry on September 8, 2026.

Defence told the court the defendant had fallen for a scam and believed he had been insured.
He continued: “He got insurance through Google and it looked very genuine. These are scam policies and criminal gangs are making money from them.
“There are a whole lot of kids out there driving around without insurance but they think they are insured. It is unfortunate he is in the position he is in. He didn’t do it deliberately.”
Defence told the court that after being stopped by the police, the defendant took out another insurance policy, which again proved to be a scam. Defence showed the scam policies to the District Judge, saying: “It looks very genuine.”
District Judge Rosie Watters disqualified the defendant from driving for three months.
She imposed a fine of £150 on each of the three charges before the court. Ms Watters also imposed an offender’s levy of £15.
