Larne electrician 'on way to collect apprentice' hit speed of 95mph

An electrician caught doing 95mph in breach of a 60mph speed limit for his van said he had been on his way to collect an apprentice.

The 30-year-old was detected on February 11 this year.

Karl Stephen Blair (30), of Ballyrickard Road near Larne, had a clear record.

At Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting in Ballymena, District Judge Nigel Broderick said there had to be a "deterrence" to others not to do such speeds and banned the defendant from driving for two weeks along with a £200 fine.
