Police in Mid Ulster say they are treating vandalism of road signs in Stewartstown as a sectarian hate crime

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in the Stewartstown area of Co Tyrone after reports that road signs were damaged by spray paint.

Police say they are questioning the man and are treating the incident as a sectarian hate crime.

The PSNI say they received a report of an individual spray painting the signs, one of which was dual-language, at 11.20pm on Wednesday.

Responding officers were able to subsequently locate and arrest a suspect and seize a number of items.
