Dunluce School raises £180,000 for cancer

Last week, the school hosted a special assembly when they handed over yet another cheque to the cancer charity that works specifically in Northern Ireland.

Last term the pupils have made an extra special effort to raise money for the charity after year eight pupil, Darren Moore lost his battle with Leukaemia.

Speaking at the assembly, the school’s charity co-ordinator, Mrs P Scullion said: “That tragic event certainly gave an added incentive to everyone who walked to the stones this year.”

Representing Cancer Focus NI, Maeve Colgan congratulated everyone involved in the school’s ongoing fundraising efforts.

Receiving a cheque for £5597.16, which was the total amount raised on a sponsored walk by the whole school back in June, Maeve was delighted to be back at Dunluce.

Cancer Focus NI (formerly The Ulster Cancer Foundation) has been the main beneficiary of the school’s fundraising effort, a sponsored walk to the Causeway stones and back, since the school’s inception.

Dunluce Principal Philip Smyth congratulated everyone involved, and thanked all who helped to raise this year’s total.

During the assembly, pupils also heard from Mrs. Valerie McGowan, a counsellor with CFNI, whose work will directly benefit from the money raised this by the local students.

The school would like to thank all its supporters and friends, who helped to make this year’s total possible.
