These special liners are designed to fit inside your brown kitchen caddy used to collect food waste which can then be disposed of in the brown bin.

Compostable caddy liners are made from plant starch which quickly breaks down through a natural decomposition processes. Not only do the caddy liners decompose naturally but they also come from a sustainable, renewable source and should never end up as landfill.

Banbridge District Council is providing these free samples to allow householders the opportunity to try compostable liners and decide if they would like to continue using them. Suitable liners can be purchased at all major supermarkets.

Only caddy liners that display the European Standard logo should be placed in your brown recycling bin. Alternatively paper bags, newspaper or kitchen roll can also be used to collect your food waste and are also suitable for placing in the brown bin. Food waste can still be placed loosely into your brown bin.

Residents are reminded that all food waste should be placed in the brown bin. This organic material will then be turned into nutrient rich compost while reducing waste to landfill and cutting landfill costs to the district.

Plastic and biodegradable bags should never be placed in the brown bin as they will not break down along with the organic material and so making it unusable for composting. If a bin is contaminated with unsuitable material it will not be emptied.
