Fined for speeding

A District Judge told a speeding motor cyclist that he was not to ride his bike thinking he was in the North West 200 road race.

Mr. Richard Wilson made the comment to 45-year-old Damian Crawley of 5 Kilnadore Brae, Cushendall, who appeared at North Antrim Magistrates Court last Wednesday pm a summons for contravening the 60 mph speed limit.

The court was told that Crawley and another biker were detected by a speed trap on the Curragh Road, Coleraine, riding in excess of 100 mph.

A defence solicitor for Crawley said his client was a full time carer for his 80-year-old father and was currently in recepit of income support.

The solicitor said that while his client could not prove it, he did not think his speed was as police had stated.

The District Judge fined Crawley 150 and gave him five penalty points.

He then told him: “The North West 200 is this weekend. Don’t you ride your motor bike thinking you are in it.”
