Glenarm plan to come before council in April

The updated scheme, which is being recommended for approval by planners, will include the regeneration of the square at Eglinton Yard to include retail units, a café and a community hall as well as housing provision.

The move signals the next phase of the regeneration strategy for the coastal village.

The plans have been drawn up by The Prince’s Foundation after consultation with the local community, who requested the new community and leisure facilities.

Architect Kim Hitch of The Prince’s Foundation created the new drawings for consideration by the Glenarm Regeneration Steering Group.

“We are delighted to help design additional facilities around the proposed new housing development at Glenarm,” she said.

“This dual development is tantamount to the success of creating and maintaining a sustainable community”.

Community representative Adrian Morrow, who sits on Glenarm Regeneration Steering Group, welcomed the developments.

He added: “Residents of the village of Glenarm are grateful for the continued support of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.”

“We are committed to securing this regeneration project for the village and driving it forward with the help of our stakeholder partners.”

At a recent steering group meeting, elected members indicated support for the plan, which they believe is a key project for the wider borough from a tourism and economic perspective. They also vowed to continue to seek additional funding to deliver all aspects of the regeneration plan.
