‘Knife and sledgehammer’ used in assault

POLICE are investigating a report that a knife and sledgehammer were used in an assault in Coleraine town centre.

The suspected assault happend in the New Row area of the town on Thursday, May 2 between 10.30am and 11am. Police are investigating reports that the assault involved six to seven males, one armed with a knife and another with a sledgehammer.

In a separate incident the PSNI is also investigating an alleged assault close to County Hall in Coleraine occurred on Monday, May 6 between 7pm and 7.30 pm.

It is alleged that four men were involved but that none of them were armed. The injuries sustained during both assaults are not thought to be life threatening.
