Man shot at wedding reception in Derry

A man in his 30s has been shot in the hand at a wedding reception in Derry.

He was treated for a hand injury following the attack in the car park of Rafters bar and restaurant on Northland Road on Wednesday evening.

A man was later arrested by gardai in Co Donegal.

PSNI inspector Tony Moore said: “Detectives are following a definite line of inquiry and are appealing for anyone who noticed a grey-coloured Volkswagen Passat in the Northland Road area at the time of the incident to contact Strand Road on 101.”

SDLP councillor John Boyle said a shotgun was fired during the incident involving members of the Travelling community.

“It’s always very worrying when you hear about weapons being produced, whether it be at a wedding, on the street or in someone’s home.”
