MEA council to host shared environmental service

MEA Council is to host the Shared Environmental Service which will provide expert advice to all Northern Ireland councils on their legal obligations regarding their enhanced environmental responsibilities after the transfer of planning powers to local government.

The service, which will be located at County Hall in Ballymena, will employ up to eight specialist staff. The primary role of the service will be to carry out Habitats Regulations Assessments on planning applications and local development plans to assess their impact on European sites, mainly special areas of conservation and protection.
