Big family turnout for Evelyn's 90th birthday celebration raises much needed cash for work of Dementia NI

The Long family of Drumquin, Co Tyrone, held a charity fundraiser to celebrate matriarch Evelyn’s 90th birthday recently and in support of Dementia NI.

The family gathered at the home of Evelyn and husband James and they chose to support the work of Dementia NI with donations made in lieu of any gifts.

Surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Evelyn, who lives with a dementia diagnosis herself, thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and wanted to share this photo of her, with her husband James and dog Archie, presenting a cheque for £750 to Diane Wilson of Dementia NI, all raised by the family themselves.

Diane is the charity’s regional Empowerment Facilitator and runs the Dementia NI groups throughout the Western Trust area, providing vital peer support for those living with a diagnosis of dementia from the Foyle down to Fermanagh.

Diabetes UK to launch Portadown Live Well Hub

Dementia NI is a local charity supporting people in the early to mid-stages of dementia across Northern Ireland. It is a membership organisation, and all members have a diagnosis of dementia. Dementia NI works directly with its members, empowering them to have a voice in decisions that affect their everyday lives. Dementia can and does affect people of any age but is more common in people after the age of 65 years. Although it is more common among older people, dementia is not a part of the normal ageing process as younger people can also be affected.

Evelyn would like to thank her family for supporting this important cause and for celebrating her birthday with her.
