Causeway Shantymen set to record album of their songs

They’ve been singing up a storm around the Causeway Coast since their formation three years ago.

And, now the Causeway Shantymen are setting sail into a new project – recording an album of their songs!

To quote their own words, the Causeway Shantymen are “renowned for bringing their shanties, sea-songs, and sense of fun to the stage and have done so successfully across Ireland, North and South”.

"These sea dogs usually have crowds stompin’ and howlin’ by the second shanty!”

"But we’re more than entertainers – we’re driven by a powerful mission: supporting men’s mental health, wellbeing and connection,” say the Shantymen.

"By reviving traditional sea shanties, we help counter rural isolation and use the timeless, therapeutic power of song to bring communities together.”

The group, who are Water Safety Ambassadors for the RNLI, were recently awarded funding to create Songs Of The Sea, a six-track album of regional sea shanties.

It is hoped that the album will be recorded at Portrush RNLI Lifeboat station and use local landmarks around the Causeway Coast.

"We are setting sail with the release of our first album, bringing traditional sea shanties from the north coast to a whole new audience,” the group posted on their Facebook page.

"From local harbours to singing for the King and Queen, these songs carry the stories, humour and hard graft of maritime life. Old songs. New voyage. Same love of the sea.”
