Plans for 136-dwelling housing development at Coleraine's Bushmills Road open for consultation

A period of consultation on plans to build a residential development comprising 136 dwelling units in Coleraine is now open.

A Pre-Application Notification (PAN) had been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Council in March of this year for the Lakeside Residential Development on lands at the former Maxwell's Spittal Hill Quarry, 209 Bushmills Road, Coleraine.

On July 23, Causeway Coast & Glens Council said that the PAN had met the criteria required so the application is now open for consultation.

Planning permission is sought for “proposed residential development comprising 136 dwelling units, public open space, landscaping, new internal road network, access from Bushmills Road, parking, and all ancillary site works”.

A Design and Access Statement said: "The purpose of this project is to deliver a high quality residential development which helps to meet the

high demand for affordable housing in the Coleraine area.

"This is confirmed by the housing need as identified by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. The proposal will provide 65 social dwellings and

71 private and affordable dwellings.”

The social housing in the development will be a mix of terraced houses, apartments and wheelchair apartments, bungalows and houses.

“The overarching design objective has been to create a scheme which responds in a creative manner to the positive aspects of the local context and provide a quality residential development which meets the significant housing demand in Coleraine.

"The scheme will connect to the existing road network within the Lakeside development and will adopt the previously approved road layout which contains already established services.”

The application will now go to Causeway Coast and Glens Council’s Planning Committee for consideration.
