Strike delayed

THIS week's planned strike at Interface was suspended after management and union reps agreed to hold talks.

Workers called a halt to their all-out strike action after a break-through last Thursday - with the action due to take place on Monday.

Talks were held on Monday at the Labour Relations Agency (LRA) between management representatives from the US-owned carpet-tile manufacturers who had flown over from England and officials from the workers’ union, Unite.

Workers had threatened to down tools in a dispute over pay and changes to the company pension scheme.

Following the talks Sean McKeever from Unite said: “The talks went OK and we’ve agreed to further talks. That in itself bodes well, that they’re prepared to come back over. Monday was the first time management sat down to talk with us.”

He added: “It’s a good start considering where we were a week ago.”

Interface management commented: “Talks between InterfaceFLOR and Unite are ongoing and we hope that these will lead to a resolution.”

Talks will resume tomorrow (Friday).
