Trio onboard inflatable dingy saved ahead of Storm Francis

Three people onboard an inflatable dingy were saved last night on Lough Neagh just before Storm Francis hit.

The trio. who were on board a 2m inflatable boat, suffered engine failure and called the Coastguard.

Belfast Coastguard tasked Lough Neagh Rescue at 8.25pm last night.

A spokesperson for LNR said: “Tasked by CGOC Belfast Coastguard to a 2m inflatable boat with 3 persons onboard having engine failure

“Our lifeboats quickly located the casualty vessel near Tolans flat and took the three people onboard who were quite cold, they transferred them to Gawley Gate and handed into the care of the Lough Neagh Coastguard Rescue Team

“Our other lifeboat on scene was able to tow the 2m vessel ashore where it was safely tied up at Gawley’s Gate.

“We would like to thank the member of the public who also alerted the coastguard.”
