New Northern Ireland weather warning issued as ‘damaging gusts’ to continue into next week - warning details

Northern Ireland will face stormy conditions over the next few days as a total of three Met Office wind warnings have been issued.

The Met Office has issued a further yellow weather warning for parts of Northern Ireland to come into force next week.

The yellow wind warning will be in force for Portrush, Coleraine, Ballycastle and Larne from 03:00 to 23:59 on Tuesday 27 October.

The warning, which has a low (10-25%) likelihood and a significant impact, reads: “A period of strong winds may lead to damaging gusts and transport disruption.

“There is a chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected. There is a chance that some roads and bridges could close.

“There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties. There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, as well as damage to trees.

“There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage. There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.

“Strong west to southwesterly winds are expected to spread across much of Scotland, the north of Northern Ireland and northern England on Tuesday. Gusts of 50-60 mph are possible quite widely and some coastal or exposed areas could see gusts of 70 mph or more, but at this time there is some uncertainty in where, and how strong, the peak gusts will be. The strongest of the winds will reduce from the southwest later on Tuesday, with the far north of Scotland the last to see winds ease.”

A yellow wind warning, which has a low (10-25%) likelihood and a significant impact, is currently in force for the whole of Northern Ireland, ending at 12:00 on Sunday 25 October, as Storm Boelo is forecast to bring gusts of over 60mph.

An amber wind warning, which has a high (50-75%) likelihood and a significant impact, for Portrush, Coleraine, Ballymoney, Ballycastle and Larne will be in place from 21:00 on Saturday 24 October to 10:00 on Sunday 25 October, with gusts of over 70mph forecast.
