‘King Kane’ wins in fourth round

O’Kane - ranked in the top 10 by the IBF - stopped Ferenc Hafner in the fourth round of their headline bout in Swindon where he trains under Paddy Fitzpatrick.

The Dungiven man came out on the right end of the brutal showdown against the Hungarian southpaw to keep alive his hopes of a world title fight.

Hafner was the first to be sent crashing to the canvas in the opening round in a fight that saw eight knockdowns, then in the second round ‘King Kane’ before bouncing back to floor his opponent four times in the third.

The war continued and O’Kane had his opposite number down twice more before the fight was eventually stopped by referee Jeff Hinds a minute and 32 seconds into the fourth as Hafner was finished off by yet another crunching blow to the body.

O’Kane is hoping that the win will help propel him to a shot at the IBF middleweight world title.

After it was announced that Billy Joe Saunders will not be facing N’Dam Hassan for the belt that last belonged to middleweight king Jermain Taylor, O’Kane, who could potentially be handed the opportunity to fight N’Dam.

And his latest win will do his chances no harm whatsoever.

Meanwhile, Galliagh middleweight Connor Coyle has been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming Gee Bee Multi-Nations in Helsinki, Finland.

The tournament will be held in the Urheilutalo Sports Hall between March 13th and 15th and Coyle will be part of a six-man team.
