Brady and McManus shine for Larne AC

Larne Athletic Club athletes were once again in action at the weekend at the ECOS parkrun in Ballymena and the Sportsman Duathlon in Dundalk.

Rhonda Brady and Heather Baxter joined over 100 participants at ECOS parkrun - a weekly 5km time-trial held within the confines of the ECOS Park in Ballymena. Rhonda secured an excellent eighth-place finish overall after running 21:31. This was enough to win the ladies’ category. Heather also performed well, especially when her recent marathon training and the associated high mileage is taken into consideration. She recorded 24:18 to finish in 27th place overall (third in ladies category).

Six Larne runners made the trip to Dundalk on Sunday for the Sportsman Duathlon. The event saw 195 competitors complete a two-mile run, a 10-mile Cycle, before finishing with another two-mile run.

Mark McManus, who was recently selected to represent his country at international level, led the Larne AC athletes home in 54:43 (sixth place). Talented veteran, David Clarke (56:09) just pipped long-serving club member Dan Spencer (56:11) to the post. They finished in 14th place and 15th place respectively. Adele Neill made a welcome return to competitive action after injury and just missed a podium place in the ladies’ category. Her 1:00:56 finish time meant she was 46th place overall and fourth place lady.

James Robinson, a recent addition to the club’s strong Duathlon/Triathlon group produced an excellent performance, completing the distance in 1:01:32 (55th place). Jenny Magill (1:08:59) also put in a strong performance to finish in 127th place overall (11th place lady).
