Confident U14s see off Lurgan

BANBRIDGE Rangers were in a confident mood going into their Mid Ulster Cup match on Saturday against Lurgan Town after last weeks convincing win over Seagoe.

Rangers started the game brightly with an early goal after a throw in by Jamie Adair was controlled by David Barr inside the box who out muscled his marker to cross the ball to the back post for Bradley Harper to tap in from a few yards out.

The game continued with much of the play being battled in midfield with Rangers having a couple of close chances through Matthew Holloway and Simon McAllister.

The second half started much the same with little between the two sides but when a clearance from Rangers rolled kindly to a Lurgan defender he hit a shot from 30 yards out that sailed into the net out of the reach of keeper Craig Robinson.

With the score at 1-1 Banbridge Rangers regained control and took the lead for the second time in the game when Matthew Holloway used his pace to take on two Lurgan Town defenders inside the box and crossed the ball for Bradley Harper to tap in his second of the day.

Lurgan Town again pull a goal back against the run of play when they broke on the counter attack with their striker scoring from a tight angle.

With 10 minutes remaining Banbridge Rangers pressed for the winner and got it through a superb strike from Danny McCallen after a weighted through ball from Matthew Holloway sent McCallen bear down on goal and drilled the ball past the keeper despite pressure from two defenders.

Rangers were awarded a late penalty when a Lurgan Town player handled inside the box but Bradley Harper failed to convert the spot kick for his hat trick.
