Cookstown's Colum McHugh on course to make grand slam

Colum McHugh is now within striking distance of the one title which, in an illustrious career, has thus far eluded him '“ the Irish National Singles.

Colum has a tremendous record at national level, having won all the other competitions at British and world level and has more international caps that any other bowler in the history of the game.

Despite this impressive record, he has never managed to claim the national singles crown.

In the qualifiers at Shaw’s Bridge he was impressive throughout all his games.

His final game was against Cookstown High’s Mark Wilson. Colum maintained his form and adapted to the weight of the mat better than Mark who had also been very impressive in his earlier games.

The final is in Richhill on Saturday April 2 and I’m sure everyone will wish him every success as he lines up against West Down’s Cecil

Dillon.

Meantime, in the GO League, Cookstown Parochial A have retained the championship title, with Cookstown High runners-up.
