Council joins forces with Rugby Club

BALLYMENA Rugby Club has announced the appointment of Tom Wiggins as its Community Development Officer.

The Club has been supported in this venture by Ballymena Borough Council who will co-fund the post for a three year period.

Tom’s remit will be to bring rugby to all communities and age groups across the Borough.

The appointment represents a substantial commitment from both the Rugby Club and the Council.

David Allen, Club Chairman, said: “We are delighted to have joined with the Borough Council in this venture.

“The appointment of a Community Development Officer demonstrates the desire in both the Club and the Council to bring sport to all communities within the Borough.

“We believe that all children should have the opportunity to engage in sport in a safe and fun environment. The Development Officer will ensure that we build on the already excellent cross community work being undertaken by the Club.”

The Development Officer’s role will see his involvement in a wide range of activities.

Tom stated: “My role will see me working in schools, youth and community organisations. I hope to deliver not only a strong focus on cross community participation but also to provide opportunities for other under represented groups such as girls, ethnic minority children and children with disabilities’.

The Club anticipate that the Development Officer’s services will be available to a wide range of groups.

Should any group or organisation wish to engage with the scheme Tom can be contacted through Ballymena Rugby Club 028 2565 6447.
