They saw out victory in a tense game against Derriaghy, winning by 29 runs in front of a good support.

The visitors asked Lisburn to bat first after winning the toss on a bright morning and had instant success when Craig Lewis had Robert Rankin caught behind the wicket by Jamison off the second ball of the innings.

This brought Lisburn captain Adam Berry to the crease at a very early stage but he quickly stamped his authority. With opener Richard Simpson batting doggedly, the pair added 63 in the next 16 overs with Berry playing some fine straight drives.

The second wicket fell when Simpson was caught off the spin of Hughes just when he looked set for a high score. He had scored a very important 19 in a fine corrective stand with his captain.

Berry was joined by Lisburn professional Cody Chetty and together they formed another vital partnership of 54 in the following 20 overs.

It was not until the 37th over that ‘Aghy claimed the wicket of Berry. Attempting another forcing shot, he was stumped by Jamison off the off spin of Robert Cumins.

Berry had scored 67 fine runs with a six and five boundaries. His great effort had seen Lisburn reach 117 for three.

Chetty received sparse support from the Lisburn middle order. Lazars was quickly caught for three, James Magowan for just a single and Davey Simpson was clean bowled for eight as the home side slumped to 171 for six with only six overs remaining in the innings.

Chetty, running out of partners, began to strike the ball with much more purpose taking his score to 75 before he was caught by Bailey off Moorhead, having struck seven fours and a six in another vital innings.

In the end, Lisburn managed a final tally of 185 which was a more than competitive score on the slowish wicket and damp outfield.

Derriaghy had bowled well as Craig Lewis finished with two for 19, Curtis Moorhead two for 22, Hughes three for 39 and Derriaghy professional Aphale returned one for 26.

Lisburn, through opening bowler Davey Simpson, got off to a good start. He had Bailey lbw and Jamison caught by Lazars to reduce the visitors to 18 for two after 10 overs.

A determined stand between professional Aphale and Andrew Kenny had Lisburn searching for a wicket until Kenny was also caught by Lazars off Adam Berry. That left Derriaghy 66 for three and somewhat behind the run rate.

Aphale and danger man Craig Lewis then made a great effort to bring their team back into contention. Lewis, from the second ball he faced, made it obvious he meant business hitting Lazars for a clean six.

He continued to strike well but with the score on 94, Lewis was well caught by James Magowan off Richard McConkey for a quick-fire 23. A few balls later, Apahale was caught by Simon Olphert for a patient 27 and it looked as if Derriaghy had shot their bolt.

At 94 for six in the 34th, the rain intervened and the players were off. When Robert Cumins and Peter Bell stood in the way of the Lisburn, Derriaghy still needing just over four runs per over to snatch the game.

Cumin, having scored a very useful 13, was adjudged lbw and soon afterwards Bell was caught off the bowling of Davey Simpson. And although Stinson and Hughes battled until the second last ball, they could not get on top of the accurate Lisburn bowling.

The game finished when Stinson was well run out by Lisburn captain Berry and his team had completed a vital victory in their difficult season.

Again Richard McConkey produced the impressive figures with 3 for 27 off 9 overs while Davey Simpson was close on his heels with 3 for 23. Steve Lazars chipped in with 2 for 40 off his 10 overs while Adam Berry contributed greatly with the timely wicket of Andy Kenny just when it was required having 1 for 10 off his two overs.

Lisburn, having won their last two Premier League matches face a very difficult ‘double header’ next week-end. On Saturday they travel to Stormont to play CSNI,recent Challenge Cup winners and on Sunday they entertain CIYMS to The Park. Both games are vital if Lisburn are to progress up the Premier League table. Saturday’s game at Stormont will bring back the memory of last year’s fixture when Lisburn bowled CSNI out for 58. A much harder game is expected while on Sunday CIYMS come to Wallace Park propping up the league and Lisburn must be hopeful of another victory.

Saturday’s match against Derriaghy was kindly sponsored by Richard Simpson snr.

At Wallace Park, Lisburn beat Derriaghy by 29 runs
