Rectory men ease to charity cup success

Sunday’s first re-arranged game in the postponed Sam McConnell Memorial finals day brought together Glendermott and St Johnston in front of a sparse crowd at Bready.

The Rectory side batted first but found scoring quite difficult early on and losing early wickets to David Anthony (2-13) and Nathan Cole (2-17) didn’t help.

Bob Robinson kept the premiership new boys at bay as he made 41 while Dean Curry’s 19 also contributed to the tally; allowing Glendermott to make 123 for 6 in their 20 overs.

The Saints reply also started deliberated but Ethan Lapsley’s 41 kept them in the hunt, albeit behind the rate. Eden Links with 4-8 from his 4 overs really turned the screw while Stuart Cochrane (2-8) and Jack Glenn (2-18) backed him up perfectly.

Saints ran out of time and then wickets in the scramble for runs late on- eventually finishing all out for 85- 38 runs adrift of the winners.

There were two league games decided on Sunday as well starting at Burndennett where Bonds Glen also got off the mark in the Championship. Once again the home team’s batting was out of sorts with Mark Pollock (26), Conan Pollock (21) and Mark Doherty (20) the only contributors of note as they were dismissed for 137.

David Cooke (4-19) did the bulk of the damage with the ball although there were two wickets for Lee Britton as well. Cooke, who made an unbeaten 35 in the Bee Gees heavy T20 defeat at Coleraine on Saturday proved the difference between the sides as he hit an unbeaten 60 (8 fours and a six) that allowed his team to record a 5-wicket win and move them off the foot of the table.

At the other end Fox Lodge are clear at the top after they eased past Creevedonnell by four wickets.

Half centuries from Andy Barr and Leighton McGarrigle and 23 from Jean Symes helped the visitors to 184 all out as Gareth Heywood (3-20), Marco Marais (2-35) and Brian Devine (2-36) were on the mark for the Foxies.

It looked far from plain sailing in reply as Symes (3-15) helped reduce the hosts to 85-5 before an unbeaten 49 from Brian Allen steadied the ship.

The skipper got support from Jason Milligan (28) and Jamie Huey (21) as they made it three league wins from three with a 4-wicket verdict.
