Cycling: Great start to the season for Cookstown Cycling Team

Racing kicked off last weekend with Annaclone GP on Saturday and the Phoenix GP on Sunday, with three CCT riders - Alastair Steele, Andrew Reid and John McGlaughlin - involved, Andrew and John with great performances in tough conditions at Phoenix.

Both were in all the important moves of the day; when the bunch stalled John attacked riding over to the break solo.

Three riders went off the front with two miles to go on the last lap.

Once John caught them one rider from the break went along with him on the run to the finish line.

After his effort at closing the gap John was pipped on the line finishing second overall.

Andrew also put in an attack within the last mile but unfortunately the bunch just caught him on the line.

It was a great team effort and a second place for the first race of the year.
