CYCLING: Jack set for Junior World Championships

cyclist Jack Wilson is set to compete in the World Junior Championships in Copenhagen this weekend.

The 18-year-old former Downshire pupil is part of a two-man Irish team alongside team-mate Ryan Mullen.

Wilson took part in the same competition in Italy last year where he finished 77th. He has since enjoyed an successful season with the UCS Crabbe-Performance Voo outfit which is based in the Limburg region of Belgium.

The teenager goes into the event in good form having won the Tour of the Valleys event in Brittany, France last month.

His dad Gary told the Times: “With a bit of luck on the day I’m hoping he can maybe reach the top 20; that would be an achievement in itself.”

It will be the last time Jack will be able to compete in the race as he prepares to make the move from junior to under-23 in March 2012.
