DERRY JFC: Drum holds aces against Glack in Junior semi-final

When the junior championship started Glack would have been one of the long shots based on a poor league run.

However, they suddenly hit form with a resounding win over Dolans and scored four goals along the way. They followed that with a very good win over Ogra Colmcille, probably better than the six point final margin indicated.

They are one of only two teams, along with Limavady, to reach the semi-final unbeaten but the period of inactivity could count against them as they take on the league champions.

Manager Aaron O’Connor will be hoping they can continue in that vein when they take on league champions Drum who start as favourites.

Drum showed their better side against Ogra Colmcille in the replay and will go into this game as favourites to reach a second successive final.

Last year they lost to Faughanvale after a replay. They will find Glack a lot tougher opposition than Ogra Colmcille but they do have the advantage of playing four games against two by Glack who have been idle for the past three weeks.

Glack had a lot of injury problems but it was when the championship came around that they were at full strength. Niall McGowan, Tommy O’Kane, county minor Martin McGonigle and Aaron Moore will put it up to Drum who may have too much experience and team work for their neighbours.

Glack have goal scoring ability; they hit four against Dolans and two against Ogra Colmcille and they will need to bag a few if they are to upset the favourites but Drum have a defence that does not give away too many goals.

Drum won both league meetings comfortably but then Glack’s league form was a pale shadow of what they have shown in the championship so far

Drum have a stronger looking panel than Glack and also have a big advantage in experience. They have a balanced look about them but Glack have individuals that can turn a game on their own. Drum are more used to the big Owenbeg pitch than Glack having played there quite often there in the last two seasons.

Donal Brolly, Rory O’Reilly, James McCartney, Ryan O’Kane, Niall Ferris and Niall Burke backbone a good Drum team that may have got a few mediocre performances out of their system and they look to have the tools to reach a second successive final.
