Disability tag blitz proves a success

Coleraine RFC & CC hosted a Tag Rugby Blitz for those with learning disabilities at Lodge Road recently and it was a huge success.

Players from four clubs; Ballymena Bears, Newforge Taggers, Seaside Sharkies (Donaghadee) and Coleraine Cheetahs gave a display of competitive and exciting rugby.

The blitz was a result of five week tag rugby programme at Sandleford School, Coleraine, which was delivered by Ulster Rugby’s Community Rugby Officer Shaun Bloomfield.

Speaking after the session, Coleraine RFC & CC President, Norman Blair, said: “I am delighted to see the impressive turn out of players, parents and supporters.

“It’s been a great occasion for the club to welcome the teams to our first venture in disability rugby.”

All the participants were provided with hot dogs and juice at the end of the successful and enjoyable morning.

The next Tag Blitz will be hosted by the Ballymena Bears at Eaton Park on Sunday November 17.

Tag Rugby is a non-contact sport that is an enjoyable, fun and active way to keep both healthy and fit. It can be played by men, women and children of all ages and all abilities.
