East Coast represented at annual Great North Run

East Coast Athletic Club’s Jacque Craig and Ruth Kelly ran the Scottish Half Marathon in Edinburgh on Saturday. The pair performed well, with Ruth leading the way in her first ever half marathon in 1:59:22. Jacque followed in 2:24:11.

On Sunday, five East Coast AC members ran the Great North Run. Chris Davis was the first team member home in 1:38:38 (pb). Iain Bailie and Paul Clements followed in 1:53:31 and 1:53:32 respectively. Catherine Maxwell completed her first half marathon in 1:56:57. Sandy Plumb finished in 2:19:45.

At the annual Laganside 10k road race in Belfast, David Clarke led the coastal club home, in 26th, crossing the line in a new personal best of 35:43. With it he took the M50 category and NI championship win. Other results: Naoise McLoughlin (137th, 39:53 pb), Murray Dellar (140th, 39:56), Drew Girvin (248th, 44:08), Alan Glover (304th, 46:22), Daniel Girvin (410th, 49:32), Lee Stirling (49:19, 426th), Lionel Date (442nd, 50:33).

In the female category, it was Janice Plumb who led the East Coast female contingent home in 43:06 to secure 19th and a new PB and a silver medal in the F45 category and the NI Championship event.

In the children’s one-mile event where East Coast Cheetahs represented the Larne-based club to their usual high standard.

At Custom House Square East Coast athletes Adele Neill, Callum Sittlington and Phil Smith again performed to their usual high standard at the BTT Olympic and Sprint distance Triathlon events. Neill took third in the female category of the Olympic distance race in 2:18:53.

Phil Smyth claimed eighth in a very competitive M40-44 category (84th overall). In the Sprint distance race, Callum Sittlington finished in 1:15:58, claiming 37th place overall and 7th in his M16-19 category.
