'˜A real Town performance' delights the manager

The result brought an end to Town’s run of three games without victory.

Coming off the back of successive defeats to Tobermore United and Dundela, a return to form was a must with the relegation spots looming just a few points below.

Right on cue, however, Watson’s players rediscovered that winning touch, many thanks to their seventh league clean sheet of the season.

“When we have been asked big questions at various times this season, the players have stood up,” concluded a proud manager.

“Clean sheets are massive and something that we’re always striving for. The back four, the goalkeeper and the whole team were very good defensively, especially in the last 15 or 20 minutes when they were pushing and throwing everything long.

“Banbridge Town teams of old might only have held out for so long but this team has a lot of bite.

“We thought at half-time that one goal would be enough to win it. Then in the second half, we were the better team. We got the goal and could even have got a few more but we didn’t need them.”

The result puts Town back up to fifth in the Championship Two table, much to the manager’s relief.

He said: “We knew going into it that it was a huge game is our season and I had called for 11 warriors to go out there. The players delivered on everything I had asked to a tee.

“It was always going to be a tight game with so much at stake. It’s a pitch with a slope on it, a boobly surface and it’s very tight. It was a day for players to put their bodies on the line and work for each other. They did that to a man.

“It was a real Banbridge Town performance and what I want my teams to be about. We totally deserved the win.”
