City duo on trials

Last year the Brandywell men lost the likes of James McClean, Danny Lafferty, Gareth McGlynn, Eamon Zayed and Stewart Greacen, who did return from Glentoran, this season a similar pattern may happen.

Winger Stephen McLaughlin could be set for a move to Championship side Nottingham Forest, while fellow joint top scorer Davy McDaid could also be on his way out of the Brandywell.

While the Candy Stripes are likely to receive around 200,000 Euros with added payments to be made based on appearances and international caps for McLaughlin if he did make the switch to the City Ground, they would however receive nothing if McDaid has a successful trial with League Two side Fleetwood Town.

The front man, who is a free agent travels to Fleetwood this week and has also held talks with champions Sligo Rovers, who are looking to strengthen their squad after duo Jason McGuinness and Mark Quigley both moved to Shamrock Rovers last week.

As for McLaughlin, who travels to Nottingham this morning for a trial, did admit any move across to England is something, which would interest him.

“Getting a chance to play in England is obviously something I would love,” conceded the 22-year-old.
