Gibson on the move

LONDONDERRY man Darron Gibson is expected to sign for Premiership giants Everton tomorrow.

The gifted Manchester United midfielder will have a medical and discuss personal terms before signing a four and a half year deal with David Moyes side.

The 24-year-old, whose contract at Old Trafford expires this summer, is likely to move to Goodison Park for £2 million and could feature in Everton’s Premiership clash at Aston Villa on Saturday.

During his time at the Theatre of Dreams, Gibson helped United clinch their memorable 19th league title last season, he also won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2008 and two League Cups in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 campaigns.

While in 2005-06 he won the prestigious ‘Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year’ award at United and the FAI Young International Player of the Year in 2009.

Gibson could line-up alongside fellow Derry man Shane Duffy, who made his Premiership debut for the Toffee men in their 2-0 defeat at in-form Tottenham Hotspur, on Wednesday night.

The big centre-back replaced Sylvain Distin at White Hart Lane and with the French man struggling with a hamstring strain and fellow defender Phil Jagielka also likely to be out, then Duffy is likely to feature this weekend.
