Goals are a dime a dozen as Slane tear through Seagoe

They did it with a threadbare squad too as even boss David Johnstone had to take his place on the bench.

Mark Ervine was unavailable, Jonny Gibson injured, Jordan Fairley &and Josh Buchanan with the seconds, then just prior to kick off John Whitten got caught at work leaving the boss stripping out to fill three subs.

Against a youthful and inexperienced Seagoe team, Slane took control of the game from the off. From the kick-off, they attacked down the left and Mark Anderson won a corner which, when it came in, Darragh Peden side-footed into the corner. A minute later, Harrison collected the through ball and placed it into the top corner.

The third arrived from a Johnny Kernaghan corner and Ryan Shilliaday with a bullet header found the top corner. The fourth goal arrived when from a Stephen White goal-kick, Gareth Bingham headed on for Gregg Harrison who flicked the ball over the back four for Brian Quilty to score into the bottom corner.

Slane were rampant and scored again when Johnny Kernaghan crossed from the right and Brian Quilty headed home. Right on half-time, it was 6-0 when another Kernaghan pass played in Quilty who coolly slotted past the keeper.

Young Adam Rowland then came on in nets and at the other end, it wasn’t long before more goals arrived. Firstly the home keeper failed to hold a loose ball and Gregg Harrison was on hand to slot home. The eighth goal arrived when a Kernaghan free kick from the right and Stevie Coulter headed home.

A corner from Brian Quilty then saw a spectacular finish when Gregg Harriosn back heeled the ball into the top corner.

With 15 minutes to go, Slane were forced into an unlikely substitution with Ryan Shilliday unable to continue through injury and manager David Johnstone forced to take the field.

Goal of the game then arrived when Harrison drove across the box and set up Kernaghan to fire home form 18 yards with the outside of his foot.

Goal number 11 came from a good passing move between Peden, Johnstone, Harrison and Adair who outpaced the defence and scored into the corner.

The final goal saw Harrison put Quilty through to round the keeper and cut back for Kernaghan to tap over the line.
