Stoke lined out with international strikers Peter Crouch and Jon Walters during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over League One-based Rovers.

Defender McCullough - who has his summer sights set on a spot in Northern Ireland’s EURO 2016 squad - attracted praise for his overall performance.

McCullough stepped into the spotlight with a run from inside his own half which ended in an assist for Rovers’ Nathan Tyson to score.

“It just opened up to be honest and suddenly I found myself in the box,” said McCullough. “A shot would have been blocked but I spotted Nathan and managed to slip the ball across for him to score.

“We can take a lot of encouragement from the team performance despite the result.

“It was also great to play in front of a packed stadium.”
