Meet Seamie Coleman’s new fiancee

This is the beautiful young woman that Donegal’s Premier League star Seamus Coleman proposed to at the end of 2013.The Killybegs man left a string of Southampton players in his wake before striking a wondergoal against the Saints - and then left his longterm girlfriend weeping with joy after he asked her to marry him. The 25-year-old player became the first Everton right-back to score five league goals in a season from open play when he went on a mazy run and smashed the ball into the top corner of the Saints’ goal.

She tweeted: “Special news..Seamie jst proposed to me after 9 years.Cant believe it in so much shock and can’t stop crying! Happiest girl in the world x”.

The Killybegs man’s reputation in the Premier League seems to grow with every game and yesterday his storming run and goal left soccer pundits purring. He is widely regarded as a bargain buy, having been bought from Sligo Rovers for around £60,000.

Coleman, however, is regarded in Donegal as a very level headed and modest young man, who will not let fame and fortune turn his head. In fact, Coleman regularly returns to support initiatives in Donegal, such as his old club’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ event at which the above photograph was taken, and the annual ‘Heroes of the Community’ event which honours local people.

Former Liverpool and Manchester United star, Michael Owen said of the goal against Southampton on twitter: “My word. What a goal from Seamus Coleman. He is developing into one hell of a player.”

Ex Manchester United and England right back Gary Neville said: “Some goal by Coleman for Everton.” He later tweeted: “Should have said Right Backs have no right to be doing that. Embarrasses all ex RB’s!!!!”

He later named Coleman and Manchester City’s Zabaleta as the best right backs in the Premier League at present.

Coleman’s Republic of Ireland colleague, James McCarthy is also making his mark in his first season at Goodison Park, where there are strong rumours that Aiden McGeady is also bound. The Goodison Park outfit, of course, already has a strong Irish connection, with Derrymen Darron Gibson and Shane Duffy also on their books.

Toffees legend, Alan Ball’s son Jimmy tweeted: “Can we get Mccarthy the number 8 shirt. Think we need a top class midfield red head in a number 8 shirt running all over Goodison again.”

Meanwhile Gibson and Duffy - are having mixed fortunes. Gibson is recovering from a serious injury while Duffy enjoyed a short weekend trip home from Yeovil Town, where he is currently on loan. Manager Roberto Martinez is said to be considering signing a short term replacement for Gibson until he recovers.

Everton have defied many pundits’ predictions this season, and currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League, in a season where they finally enjoyed their first win at Manchester United, now led by former boss, David Moyes, in 21 years. That victory was secured by a stunning strike by left back Bryan Oviedo.
