Slick Town reap the rewards

Lurgan Town produced one of their best displays so far this season to see off Moneyslane 3-1 in the first round of the Alan Wilson Cup.

All three Town goals came in the first half with their opponents unable to contend with the superb attacking football from the Lurgan side.

The first came on 25 minutes when a cross from Matthew Bann was fired into the net by Andrew Houston. Ten minutes later that lead was doubled when a cross from Jamie Devlin was fumbled by the keeper and dropped over the line.

A polished first half was complete when Adam Harrison drilled the ball home after the ball broke to him after a goalmouth scramble.

The second half saw Town remain on top but they were unlucky not to add to their tally with Houston going close and Adam Stewart having an effort smash off the bar.

Moneyslane pulled a goal back near the end.

“It was a brilliant display from the team in the first half,” enthused manager Tim Lennon. “One of the best 45 minutes I have seen for some time. It was always going to be hard to sustain that level of performance in the second half but we still dominated the game.”
