'˜That's the type of performance we need' says boss

Banbridge Town's performance on Saturday was just what the club needs.

That summed up the view of Banbridge Town manager Ryan Watson on Saturday.

He had watched his side grind out a credible 1-1 draw away to Queen’s University. And with three more games left to secure their Championship Two future, Watson says more of the same would do just fine.

“The players did everything they could for the jersey and that’s the type of performance we need in each of these last three matches,” he told the ‘LEADER.’
“We started the game very well and scored a great goal. They had a few half chances and hit the post but we dominated most areas of the pitch.

“It was a pity we couldn’t see the half out at 1-0 but we still felt very confident at 1-0.

“They stepped things up after the break and things got nervy towards the end. Yes, we wanted to go and get the three points but we had worked so hard for a point and we didn’t want to go home empty handed.

“Talking to their manager after the game, both of us saw it as another point on the board in a tight table.

“We need to keep putting points on the board in these last three games.”

Watson was also full of praise for goal-scorer Conor Downey.

“Conor held the ball up very well and he got his customary goal,”

“You expect him to score every time he goes out now. To have a player in that sort of form is very nice.

“In the second half, he didn’t get up to that level but the game was tightening up and Queen’s were getting more possession of the ball. Every player gave 110% and that’s all we can ask.”

Town have a free week coming up but there could still be plenty of movement in the table.

The two teams directly below Town, Newington and S&L Swifts play each other on Wednesday while other teams in the mix, Glebe Rangers and Dollingstown, also have games before the locals next take to the pitch.

That will be when they travel to Glebe Rangers on Saturday 16th April.

“We should have a good picture of what’s happening and what we need to do by the Glebe game,” said Watson.
