Trojans up next for on-form United after Cup win over Dungiven

Ballymoney United continued their fine form with a 3-1 Challenge Cup win over Dungiven on Saturday.

Played in unfamiliar surroundings Ballymoney started this home game in Dunloy.

Mark Gillen opened the scoring after a good move by Dempsey and McLaughlin. Dungiven piled on the pressure, but quick reactions from Coyle in the Ballymoney goal kept the home team in front. At the other end, a McLaughlin corner on 40 minutes was headed just wide at the front post by Lyons.

It was all Ballymoney as half time approached. Great work by Stewart created an opportunity for Mark Gillan to cross to the back post for Lyons to score from close range. Dungiven attacked just before half time and had a penalty claim turned down by the referee. Although angry at the decision Dungiven were rewarded on their next move finding O’Kane unmarked to blast past Coyle, leaving the score 2-1 at the break. Ballymoney took control from the start of the half and had chances through Allen, McGee and Friel. Ballymoney were handed a penalty after a foul on Dickson. McLaughlin fired home, after being forced to retake the kick, to ensure his side ran out 3-1 winners.
