Lisburn golfers make it a double at awards night

Lisburn golfers won the Junior and Senior Team of the Year awards at a ceremony in the Island Civic Centre last Friday.

The event was organised by Sport Lisburn and Castlereagh. The golfers beat stiff opposition in both sections to win the awards.

Team captains Mark Jamieson and Alan Gilmore were ‘over the moon’ at winning these prodigious awards. Club captain John Boyd said that their teams had brought a successful year to a fantastic conclusion.

Winter League: Chris Scott (22) and Ben Kirkwood (11) topped the leader board with 23 points in Saturday’s Winter League. The front nine holes were rather soft after heavy rain but more than 60 competitors braved the cold and sometimes wet conditions. Chris finished with 15 points on the last five holes to win Division 3 by two points from Chris Warwick (23).

After a birdie two at the fourth Ben played the next six holes in level par to win Division 1 by two points form Stephen Shaw (5). Stephen dropped a stroke at the first but a birdie four at the eighth gave him a round of level par.

Leslie Cross (14) and Brian Wilkinson (18) topped Division 2 with 21 points. Leslie’s birdie three at the ninth helped him win on count back.

Wednesday Stableford: 1st Ian Shane 23 pts, 2nd Roy Welsh 23 pts, 3rd Jim Cunningham. Juveniles Winter league: 1st Conor Lyness (28) 24 pts, 2nd Henry Thomas (18) 23 pts.
