Triple success for juveniles as they lead the way at Lisburn

The Fred Daly team reached the semi-final after a 10–4 victory over Cushendall. A large crowd watched the second leg of the quarter-final match at Lisburn in which the home team won all seven matches.

Lisburn got off to a great start with Christian Kennedy racing to a five and four victory over David Burns. Christian was two ahead at the turn and level par when the match finished on the 14th green.

Kyle Patton just arrived home from holidays in Florida in time to take his place on the team. He was one ahead after nine holes but lost the 17th against Fergus McCambridge to leave the match all square on the final tee. The Cushendall player missed the green and his pitch ran well past the flag so Kyle’s par three was sufficient to win one up.

Josh Robinson was one ahead of Ronan McCambridge after nine holes. He chipped in for a birdie three to win on the 16th green.

Aaron Marshall got off to a great start against Simon McSparron and was six ahead at the turn. He continued to play well and won six and four.

Craig Ryan was two ahead of Peter McSparron after nine holes and won the next four holes to win six and five.

Mark Armstrong was two ahead of Chris McLaughlin after nine holes and pulled away to win on the 17th green.

Josh Hamilton trailed Eoin Hynds by three holes on the ninth tee. A birdie three reduced the arrears and he played well on the back nine to win three and one.

Mark Jamieson’s team now march on to Moyola Park where the semi-finals and final will be played on 2nd August. Lisburn play Clandeboye in the first semi-final.

Lisburn also won their Ronan Rafferty match against Rossmore. Eight points were required for victory. Johnny Scott won three points, Spencer Pinion four and Ben McCambley one. At this stage Mark Stewart and Ross Morrow were called in.

Meanwhile, the Craigavon Trophy team had a 17½ – 10½ success against Armagh. Top scorers for Lisburn were Troy Knox and Catherine Murphy with four points each. Connor Heasley won 3½points, Connor Lyness 3 points and Jack Heatherington 2½.

Lisburn’s men, however, didn’t fare quite as well and are out of the Holt Shield. They were 3 – 2 down after the away match at Shandon Park and could only win two matches at home thanks to Simon Ingram and Mark Jamison.

Lisburn’s Junior Cowdy team had four close matches against Mourne.

Alan Gilmore and Barry McQuillan lost the 17th and the match by two and one. Ken Gilmore and Derek Gallagher lost on the last green while Martin McDonald and Michael Rooney halved their match. Chris Davis and Chris Warwick were up against two in-form opponents and were beaten five and three.
