Henderson is hat-trick hero

YOUNG Jack Henderson was ‘on fire’ against Instonians at Shaws Bridge on Saturday coming off the bench to score a sublime hat trick.

A rampant Lisnagarvey side, missing four players, started brightly and went 1-0 up within five minutes courtesy of a well despached drag flick into the bottom right corner from Glen Whitten.

The score was soon level as Garvey gave the ball away easily in midfield allowing Instonians back in the game.

Garvey, by far the better side, were dominant in possesion and looked like scoring every time they went forward. Garvey were soon 2-1 ahead thanks to a fantastic goal by Rob Cummins.

Rob took the ball on the edge of the circle, past the keeper, and slotted in from an unbelievably tight angle on the reverse.

The flood gates quickly opened and Garvey were 4-1 up thanks to two goals from Henderson. At half time Garvey found themselves 5-1 ahead with a further goal from stalwart John Gray.

Ian Davidson scored twice in the second half to put Garvey 7-1 ahead and young Jack Henderson secured his hat trick with a tap in at the back post, following great work by Whitten, to make it three for the Hillsborough side.

Garvey were caught napping on the break as Ian Harbinson ran into the back of Rob Cummins, leaving Campbell with a one on one, but the keeper had no chance against a fierce reverse stick shot to make it 8-2.

John Gray got the final goal of the day by rounding the keeper with a neat dummy and slotting home.

Selection headaches ensue for the Garvey captain Paul Fleming ahead of next week’s match against Newry at Comber Road.
